For a while now, with the big TB craze popping up (and all the wonderful races and jumping comps) Mrs. Gabe has been thinking about bringing in a thoroughbred at Dark Raven. Not having a suitable horse(though we are making do) for the Winter Fox Hunt at Dark Lake was the kicker for Mrs Gabe. It was time to bring in some new blood. So after a talk with James it was agreed that Dark Raven was lacking depth and a Thoroughbred would would be the perfect thing to start an expansion program with.
The hunt was on. Mrs. Gabe, being Mrs. Gabe would not have just any old TB. It had to be special, It had to be talented and it had to have that lil spark that Mrs. Gabe was so fond of. With that in mind she and James visited a number of farms but nothing suitable was to be found. Then they went to the track. It was on a cold and foggy morning at one of these tracks that Mrs. Gabe found what she was looking for. A chestnut filly materialized out of the fog, patchy and seeming more a shadow along the ground than a living thing the filly raced... sideways down the track. From the looks on the rider, trainer and even the owner's (who had come out to watch the filly practice) faces this was not an unusual occurrence. Frustration and a certain resignation painted all their features. Mrs. Gabe was not to be deterred though, especially not after speaking to the owner and learning of the fillies fantastic bloodline. Mrs. Gae made and offer on the spot, which after some small deliberation was excepted. Mrs. Gabe had James load the filly immediately after cooling her down. within hours the chestnut was being unloaded and her hooves touched Dark Raven soil for the first time. Snip- as Mrs. Gabe has already come to call her- gave a little snort and a shake and calmly followed Mrs. Gabe - who refused to let James touch her halter- to her waiting paddock. In the distance two of the outlying barns could be seen, as well as a yellow haze that could be none other than Iki. he had been brought up on his own for breeding and the upcoming show season. Mrs. Gabe settled the filly in her stall, gave her some oats and a quick pat. With a good deal of satisfaction she walked out and firmly latched the door. She had quite a few plans for this lovely girl.
